The Greedy American & The Hairy Bikers

This past Friday I made my debut on the BBC by talking about... cupcakes!

Cate Hairy Bike3Me, making sure Annie is enjoying her cupcake correctly

Last October I was asked by the team at The Hairy Bikers if I'd like to come on the next Best of British series to talk about cupcakes. I was joined by the terribly clever Dr Annie Grey, a food historian, to basically sit in The Hummingbird Bakery, eat a bunch of cake, and argue about the differences between fairy cakes and cupcakes.

We filmed for quite a while and tasted every single kind of cupcakes available in The Hummingbird Bakery. What you don't get to see in the episode, is that we had some a discussions about the true  history of cupcakes, fairy cakes, and how cupcakes became so damn popular in the States. Our segment was all of 5 minutes, but I'm glad I didn't come off as a complete nitwit. (Even if they did just call me CupCate instead of my actual name...)

You can still watch the "Atlantic" episode of Hairy Bikers' Best of British on iPlayer now!
